YouTube Is Becoming a Fast-Growing Search Engine

num2

I recently read an article that said YouTube is advancing as a search engine and has passed up Yahoo! in the past. I find that interesting. I never really considered YouTube to be a “search engine,” and now here they are at #2.

Actually though, since Google also ownes YouTube, Google could be considered in the number one and two spot. But what does that really mean for affiliate marketers?

It means that if you aren’t submitting videos to YouTube, you better get busy — because even though I just discovered the article recently, it’s not new news! In fact, while searching around on Google some more, I found a press release dated August 2006 from comScore with this title:

“Online Video Officially Goes Mainstream as YouTube.com Breaks Into the comScore Media Metrix Top 50.”

The article I read was from 2008, and now in 2009, Search Engine Watch has a post stating that you might even be able to get in on some revenue sharing with YouTube if your video gets lots of views and becomes viral enough.

So, if you want to make money from your videos, first you have to MAKE SOME! Then, sign up for YouTube’s Partner Program. If you qualify, you’ll get paid through your Google AdSense account. It usually takes a little time (in some niches) for your video to get “hot,” but if/when it does, it should be very advantageous to your bottom line.

  1. So what impact will this have on the Lazy Tubester?

  2. This is so true. I myself use Youtube as a search engine but never thought that other people use it in this way as well. I recently attended a workshop on SEO and I learnt that submiting videos to Youtube is a very important part of it. So Yes I agree, if you aren’t submitting videos to YouTube, you better get busy. Great article.
