This Week’s Top Affiliate Marketing Stories: October 2, 2009

news_10_2_09Changing Times: Online Trumps Newspapers
Here’s a news story you don’t want to miss. According to the writer, “A new survey on media usage from the Opinion Research Corporation confirms what newspaper publishers have long feared: Americans are abandoning print daily newspapers for information in favor of online news.”

Fall Begins, and So Do Affiliate Marketers
On the Affiliate Classroom Blog, you’ll find an interesting article about the change of seasons and how it affects affiliate marketers.

Evelyn says, “I’m always a little sad when fall sets in. Well, actually, I’m sad that summer is over, and so is relaxation time. But I’m also happy, because the start of fall is the time when affiliate marketers get into high gear. There are a lot of seasons to cover between October and December — are you ready for them?”

Building an Affiliate Marketing Powerhouse – Case Study
Over on the 5 Star Affiliates Blog, Linda Buquet has posted a review of a case study posted on Affspot by Scott. Linda says, “He started with a conservative goal of making $3,000 a month and decided one way to reach that goal would be to launch 25 niche mini sites.” Interesting idea!

Amazon Takes a Stand: No More Non-Stop Links from Affiliates’ Paid Search terms
Mary Wagner, writing on the Internet Retailer Blog, is talking about direct linking. She says, “When Amazon.com Inc. in April announced it would stop paying commission fees for traffic sent directly to Amazon from paid search ads that affiliates purchased, a practice called direct-linking, it was the latest round in a long-standing industry debate over the role of so-called “paid search affiliates” in merchants’ affiliate programs. But it was the first time the Internet’s largest retailer had stuck a flag in the sand over this particular issue.” Mary goes on the explain what all of this means to affiliate marketers and what future consequences may be.

PPC Roadmap for Affiliates
There’s a very informative guest post on the 5 Star Affiliates Blog by C. T. Moore that you don’t want to miss. Moore begins by saying, “As an affiliate, PPC represents a serious source of targeted traffic. There’s a good chance the user is looking to buy and they’re already searching for targeted keywords … there are three things an affiliate should make sure they have backing them up: (1) solid tracking, (2) proper campaign set-up, and (3) the right monitoring tools.” An interesting read, and the information is right on.

  6. Great post!
One thing I’d like to say: People do not only shift from printed media to online but also from more conventional news websites to 2.0 properties such as high-quality news blogs. I might be mistaken but this is a trend I have noticed in my circles. What do you see related to 2.0?
