Blogs are a great way to add fresh content to your site. They can help you connect better with your site users and potential customers. Even though the tone may be more casual, your blog is an opportunity to show off your business and your brand.
In addition to helping you speak to your customers in an informal way, your blog will also improve your ranking on search engine results pages. Whenever new content appears on your site, the search engines will send spiders to “read” your posts.
But having a blog means posting. Regularly.
That can be trying at times. Coming up with topics to write about can be challenging. After all, even national press outlets have slow news days.
Lucky for you we have a few suggestions about what to do about the eternal search for topics.
Suggestion #1: Build a List
Compiling ideas into a list is a great way to get organized. Keeping a tally of your post titles can prevent you from duplicating material. And you’ll find as you list topics, you’ll see how you can narrow your focus and get more posts out of a single issue.
Suggestion #2: Save for a Rainy Day
We’re going to assume you’ve set up a posting schedule. Try to get into the habit of writing the posts in advance. Besides helping with proofreading and editing, this means you can create a surplus of posts on evergreen issues. Set aside a block of time at least once a week to write at least one extra post about an element of your niche.
For example, if you’re an affiliate marketer in the makeup niche, compose a post about caring for your makeup brushes, or how to do a smoky eye. These topics are good any time of the year.
Suggestion #3: Follow the News
Staying current on news in your niche is good way to get inspired. Blogging about the latest story is also a good way to prove your site is a source of information. You can also find ways to incorporate larger current affairs into your work.
To use our makeup affiliate example again: Earth Day was just last week, which can inspire a number of posts on “green” cosmetic companies, recycling makeup containers, or organic skin care.
Keeping up a blog means keeping on your toes about niche news and events. Getting organized and staying on schedule can take the panic out of posting, which makes blogging so much easier!
