SEO Tips: Three Easy Ways Affiliate Marketers Can Get High Quality Backlinks

linksAs an affiliate marketer, you know that you want your website to appear higher in search engine rankings. And that’s because you know that high rankings are the key to getting free traffic.

However, you’re not alone if you’re wondering how to get the high-quality, and diverse backlinks that Google’s algorithms apparently love so much.

Well, posting to blogs and forums is a tried-and-true method to get backlinks. And it works. But there’s more you can do.

We’ve assembled three of our top tips that we share with our Affiliate Classroom students to help them get more high quality and diverse backlinks to their websites.

Tip #1: Get Listed in Resource Directories and Relevant Lists

Resource directories are those sites that act as resources for people who are searching for information about a particular topic. There are websites that provide lists on “the top debt repair sites” or “the top weight loss sites” or “the top whatever sites.” Google considers backlinks from this type of site to be high in quality.

Find these sites by typing “your keyword or phrase + add url” (without the quotation marks). For example if your niche is “fitness,” you’d type the following into a Google search:

fitness + add url

Your results will be an enormous list of sites that allow you to add your URL and create a backlink that Google will love.

**NOTE:

1. Avoid sites that ask for reciprocal links!

2. Make a list and keep a spreadsheet of sites you submit to, so you don’t have to repeat the search.

Tip #2: Get Backlinks from Squidoo

You can add your website to Squidoo lenses and use custom anchor text. Many Squidoo lenses rank surprisingly well in Google results.

To find the Squidoo lenses; go to Google and type “add+to+this+list”+“your keyword or phrase”+site:squidoo.com” (without the quotation marks) into the search box. If your niche is “debt,” you’d type in the following:

add+to+this+list+debt+site:squidoo.com

You’ll get a long, long list of related Squidoo lenses where you can list your site and establish a backlink.

Tip #3: Get EDU and GOV Backlinks

Backlinks ending in “.gov” and “.edu” are valued very highly by Google. You can find .gov and .edu sites by typing the search phrase “site:edu inurl:blog “post a comment” or site:.gov inurl:blog “post a comment” (without the quotation marks) into the Google search box.

**NOTE: Colleges often provide personal web space for students, and the extension of the sites is .edu. If you know or can find a college student who will work with you, you can post a whole article rather than just a comment.

If you want to make the most of your affiliate marketing business, follow these three tips to get backlinks.

You’ll improve your search engine ranking, get more traffic, and make more money from your affiliate marketing business.

  2. Thanks for your sharing…the way you make use of those 3 tips are different….i knew those but the way you explain and use is different…thanks..

  3. As much fun as it is, most blogs have nofollow tag for urls in comments, which means that as a backlinks they don’t add any value to your site. This also applies to most (if not all) blogs I’ve seen on .gov and .edu sites.

  4. Please correct me if Im wrong, but no follow just simply means that Google doesn’t pass link juice to your site. But it still counts as a link. Correct? Aren’t we trying to build link juice and links?

  5. It’s true that now a days the majority of blogs are no follow links. That’s because of too many spammers. It’s sad but true.

Anyway I always find that building links seems to be one of the hardest part of building an online presence.

  6. “no follow” links now affects the ranking in search results too. So just collect any links :) More links, more and more :)

  7. The thing is, even if it IS a no follow link, a human might just look at your comment, click through to your site and buy something. And that’s worth way more than Google Link Juice! I totally agree with Max, the more links the better.

  8. Think squido is the right choice to do.

  9. article submissions is another good way to gain quality backlinks

  10. I really appreciate this piece of info! Anyway, I have a question on getting backlinks from squidoo. Do I have to create a new lens? Or do I just leave comments? Help needed!! Thank you guys! =D

  11. These are some good SEO tips for affiliate marketing. I will definitely be putting them into practice.

  12. good beginning tips for backlinks. Just the tip of the iceberg though…

  13. Has Always Great Content Thanks Andrew H.

  15. Hey Guys –

I regularly visit sites from other commenters on the blogs that I comment on. I figure if we’re reading the same content then they might have something to offer at their blog.

Who really cares if the big G says the link is worth following?

The more you read, the more you learn!
Keep on learning and you’ll find success!

  16. Nofollow or not, bringing focus back to your site in a positive way is a positive action. Good luck with the Squidoo approach, though. The juice from that tree seems to have been badly diluted.

  17. Always learning from this blog, I really appreciate all your sharing….

  18. Good solid advice for the beginner to get stuck into there.

And, as I teach my own students and mentoring clients, as soon as you are making good money the next step is to use some of it to outsource the task of backlinking.

  19. very informative thanks alot… I’m using it now and it really made my link building easier

  20. I agree with what’s being said here about the age of the site – very important- I have an 18 month old site which was used for a local club and had loads of content – the club closed down nearly a year ago and I removed most of the pages with just a front page with a notice saying we’d closed. I left some adsense on there and it gets nearly as much from adsense as all my other sites put together! (OK, there is little other content, so I guess users have to click on them, but a new site with no content wouldn’t show up in searches in the first place)

  21. Thanks for sharing how to get .GOV and .EDU links. By the way, directories are not that strong like they were before.

  22. Some nice info !
I think i already saw this once before.

  23. Thanks for the tips…. Backlinks is one of the best and most effective ways to get high positions in search engines and milk these positions for targeted traffic. But getting quality one way links is a big job.

  24. One underground technique to rank better is to wisely use the outbound links…

Sometimes may be hard to get .edu or .gov links back to you, but nothing stops you from linking TO them.
