“Trustworthiness of the domain based on link distance from trusted domains” was ranked by 66% of the SEO experts who participated in the SEOmoz.org survey as having “very high importance” as an SEO ranking factor.

“What”, you might ask, “is trustworthiness of the domain based on link distance from trusted domains”?

A link on your website directly from a “Trusted Domain” (a domain that search engines believe they can trust) is one click away. A link on your website from another site that has a direct link to a “Trusted Domain” is two clicks away….and so on.

The fewer clicks between your website and a “Trusted Domain” the more trustworthiness the search engines give your website.

Build Your Site’s Trust Factor by Building Links to “Trusted Domains”

There’s not a list of “Trusted Domains” that you can buy, borrow, rent, or steal. So far as anyone knows it doesn’t exist. And you can’t just go by a domain’s “PageRank” to find out if it is a “Trusted Domain”.

Nobody really knows for sure what factors and sub-factors Google and other search engines use to determine how trusted a domain in but we believe the three most important factors are:

• age factor (age of the site)
• authority factor (number of authoritative backlinks)
• content quality (quality of the content published on the site)

The easiest way to find the details will help you determine the “trust factor” of a website is to go to Alexa. You have the option of checking out a specific website or plugging in a keyword and finding related sites.

Links from .edu or .gov sites are deemed more valuable by search engines than links from .com or .net or .org sites. It is also important to note that all backlinks matter in SEO.

  1. Thanks for these great tips in the series! All of the parts I’ll be studying. Keep up the superior work.

  2. Great article, but I have to disagree with using Alexa to rank sites. Alexa can easily be manipulated. To prove a point to somebody, I had my Alexa rank drop swiftly in about 45 days. I simply installed the Alexa Toolbar on my browser and bam! All of my sites have a decent Alexa Rank now, and it keeps getting better. One of them was 2.5 million, now it’s in the 500,000’s

  3. We just launched our website http://www.TagSpider.com and plan to try some SEO service., but have some concern, like what will happen if we stop use SEO service? Website ranking will DROP?
