Google’s Fiber Networks Mean Growth Opportunities for Internet Marketers

Earlier this month the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced their National Broadband Plan for America. Partnering with local businesses, investors, the Small Business Administration and others, the FCC plans to make broadband Internet accessible across the country.

Google sent suggestions to the FCC last June for the plan, and has launched an experiment of their own. Google will provide high-speed Internet, a Fiber Network, with 1 gigabit per second connections at a competitive price to cities with populations between 50,000 and 500,000. Google put out a request for information to the public to find communities interested in taking part in the trial.

Residents and local government representatives from Topeka, Ann Arbor, Portland, Winston-Salem, Baltimore and more launched websites, Facebook pages, and blogs to spread the word, get support and submit a nomination for their cities.

The deadline for responses was March 26th, so now it’s up to Google to select from the nominees the lucky townships and cities that will find themselves wired by the Internet powerhouse.

Besides gaining a new level of adoring users, what does Google get out the experiment? Google is looking for three developments:

  • New Applications – Google wants to see what you can create. With incredibly fast Internet, a new realm of possibilities opens up for programs and for Internet marketers.
  • New Networking Techniques – Google is looking for the newest ways to build fiber networks and the best ways to connect people and communities via those networks.
  • New Choices – Google will provide multiple service providers, promising an “open access” network.

The FCC and Google create more opportunities for Internet marketers

Google’s Fiber Network experiment puts them at the forefront of Internet developments. The hugely successful and widely popular company is set to lead the way for the FCC, and show everyone – from the Feds to local and international governments – how they can connect.

The power boost for Internet speeds means growth opportunity for anyone online – Internet marketers, affiliates, online services, and sales.

It’s easy to assume everyone’s online already, but with a surge in speed and more accessibility, the online population will increase multi-fold and there’ll be a new range of users and potential customers online businesses.

Google will announce the winning cities later this year, so if you’re in Internet marketing, you better start thinking of how you’re going to tap into those wellsprings of new clients!
