FTC Ruling on Reviews and Testimonials

We’ve been carefully watching the FTC’s new ruling on endorsements (review sites) and testimonials to determine how it might affect affiliate marketers. When the new ruling first came out, there was talk about an $11,000 fine for those caught out of compliance. But that information was detracted, and now there is no mention of a fine. However, since it IS the FTC making the new guidelines, affiliate marketers should take notice.

Your purpose for writing an article is to promote your site, service, or product. Unfortunately, in most cases, this really can’t be done in the article content, as it turns the article into more of a sales letter and less of an informative article. Save the promotion for the author’s resource box.
If you don’t know what an author’s resource box is, it’s simply a block of text used to provide information about the author. It’s included at the bottom of the article when it’s distributed, and it remains with the article when others reprint it.
