It’s been proven that just writing blog posts on a regular basis serves to send traffic to your website – and a significant amount of traffic! Websites with active blogs simply generate more traffic than similar websites without blogs.

Of course, business blogs should have some kind of at least general structure – the type information that is presented. But that isn’t a hard and fast rule. If your blog is generally focused on products, that doesn’t mean you can make a blog post about changes in the industry itself.

There are three types of blog posts that seem to generate more traffic than others:

• Industry Business News
• Industry People News
• New Products

Industry Business News: One thing about the world of Internet business is that NOTHING is permanent. The landscape is constantly changing. Congress passes bills that affect some industries, the FTC hands down new rules, new safety standards go into effect, etc. All of these changes, both large and small, affect your business and thus your customers. And they all make excellent fodder for blog posts.

Industry People News: Every industry has people at its center. Business doesn’t revolve on a digital spiral; it rides on the shoulders of real human beings, and there is simply nothing any more interesting than people. Write about the people at the center of your industry.

New Products: Those who are interested in a particular niche are very, very interested in new products that are being developed for that niche. They want to know what’s new today and what will be new tomorrow. You can’t go wrong writing about new and soon-to-be-new products for your niche.

Of course, any post is better than no post at all. Blogs tend to die quickly if they are ignored. If you have a blog, post to it regularly. If you don’t have a blog, get one, and post to it regularly.
