Backlinks from authority sites not only mean better search engine placement, but super-high quality traffic. But how do you get published on authority sites? Follow these 7 steps to getting your articles published on authority sites.
1 – Search Google (and other engines) for your keywords. Authority sites will typically show up on the first two pages of results. Note down all the sites from which you’d like to get links, including the contact information of the webmaster. You’ll probably want to keep track of this in a spreadsheet.
2 – Determine the type of article each site prefers. Do they publish articles, news reports, reviews? Do they offer free white papers, case studies, or special reports? Do they have an opt-in exchange with industry ezines or newsletters? Your goal is to decide what types of copy they can use – so you can provide the copy in exchange for a link!
3 – Tailor your topics and titles to the sites. Once you have a good idea of what will appeal to the webmaster, come up with at least three focused, unique, and keyword-rich topics you can write about. Also write some catchy titles based on the titles you find on each authority site. Webmasters always want articles with eye-catching titles that include good keywords.
4 – Write some rough drafts. Skip the opening and closing paragraphs, and just jot down the points you’d like to cover in each article. Remember that ALL good articles – no matter what type they are – are tightly focused, and offer solutions in an easy-to-read, short paragraph format.
5 – Open a dialogue. Once you prepare your titles and draft your articles, start networking with those webmasters. Send them a personalized email that shows you’ve actually read their web site and understand the type of visitors they want. Include the titles of your articles, and ask if they’d like to publish them on their site.
If your articles are on an in-demand topic, with a tight focus, you should have no trouble getting them accepted by webmasters. If you’re offering a white paper, case study, or special report, give the title plus a synopsis of no more than three sentences.
6 – Offer custom content. It never hurts – especially if the authority site has high PR – to offer customized or exclusive articles just for that webmaster. Webmasters love free, non-duplicate content. Be sure you honor your agreement not to publish them elsewhere, including on your own site.
7 – Remember what an authority link is worth. Yes, it takes more time to develop unique articles – and to personally ask webmasters to publish them. But consider what it would cost to buy a link on an authority site, IF you can buy a link at all. The extra hour or two of your time can be worth many thousands of dollars in advertising costs, not to mention the increase in leads and business.

You have some very valid points and I’m sure that there are not that many people thinking of providing unique content for the leading websites. I do imagine that there will be larger websites that won’t buy into this idea (wikipedia, yahoo and similar sites). But for most niches it could definitely work.

This is the best advice I have seen in a while on getting authority one-ways, as always it is initiative and guts that is rewarded and I for one am certainly going to try the method you have outlined.

This sound like going to take lot of time and effort. Isn’t it better to locate authority blogs with trackback url?
Whenever you link to their blog post, there’s trackback to your site almost instantly.

First, most trackback links are nofollowed.
Second, that even if the trackback is “followed” that’s a reciprocal link, which is not as valuable as a one way link from that site.

This is excellent advice! I only wish webmasters of authority sites would be as co-operative as you state. The reality is that most webmasters would not even bother to reply to such offers. Yes – this can definitely work with smaller websites.

I like the advice, but in my experience in communicating with authority sites, they don’t even reply. They usually have so many links aiming at them, they aren’t interested in something that they see only helps you, the requester.
Of course, they would benefit by getting good content, but it isn’t worth the bother to them.
That is my experience.. . I wish it were different.
This is a greta way to promote if you have content worth being on the Authoritative sites. Great for the few that have valuable info but do not know were to put it and promote it.

I have to agree with many of the comments being thrown around. “The Year Of The Incoming Link” is pretty much every year. And although. IF and it’s a big IF, you offer superior quality information the authority site deems suitable for it’s audience, you may just have a shot at getting published.
That being said, are you offering quality information on you website? If you’re just scraping and pasting partial info feeds? You’ve already lost your opportunity before you even attempt.
Take it from one who did that to his test sites.
The sites I did that too? Took the hit for the team.
I now, only promote full feeds from affiliate sources with moderate changes for quality re-purposing. And submit articles the semi-old fashion way.
Post them locally on the originating website,
get them aged in the engines.
Then Up to Ezine Articles, wait a week and then out to the masses in a very automated fashion.
Building Authority link Luv is a courtship and should be considered as such.
If you can’t handle the process yourself, outsource it. But don’t even think passed that. Just do it and be done with it. Any stall in the process will eventually stop you in your tracks.
