Whilst I agree that many affiliates make mistakes, many of the companies wanting website owners etc to sign up to their affiliate schemes do not give enough support or advice to affiliates.
They give the impression that it’s just a case of putting a few banners or text links on your site, and the money will soon be making money.
If you we’re designing a business model to sell a product or service affiliate schemes make financial sense. If the website owner promoting the product/service doesn’t make a sale – then they don’t get paid and are providing free advertsing 24/7 into the bargain for the product/service.
If I was paid 20p for every click that a visitor made on a banner of text link on my site I would have made more money than I have ever made as an affilaite.
Anyway, that’s just my experience.
