Affiliates Take Note - Holiday Shopping Starts Now!

As part of my Affiliate Marketing business, I set up a gift shop to try to catch some of that Holiday traffic. It was easy to do using Golden Can’s one line of code option.

If you want to get a site up in a hurry, Golden Can is the way to go.

The second part of having a web site is, of course, marketing it!

I have been slowly posting ads. But I’ve been anxiously waiting for the day after Thanksgiving. In the past, this was known as the day that shoppers started doing their major holiday shopping.

However, according to a survey done by the National Retail Federation (NRF), it looks like I’m already behind this year!

Their survey shows the percentage of people shopping during the last four months of the year are as follows:

  • Before September 14.0%
  • September 6.5%
  • October 19.9%
  • November 37.0%
  • December 18.8%
  • Last two weeks of December 3.8%

Looks like I better get busy! I’ve already missed out on the October 19.9% - I don’t want to miss the 37% in November – and neither do you!

Stop in to the Affiliate Classroom “booth” and visit me, if you have any questions, I’ll be there to answer them for you.

Linda Woods from PartnerCentric did an interesting presentation on Wednesday. She stated that: “As the affiliate marketing industry has matured, a large number of affiliates have become so adept at marketing that they are now larger than the brands they promote.”

WOW! Do you know how much power that gives affiliates! Affiliates now have more power over what programs they can promote, and soon, will have a bigger say in the commission percentage they will accept for promoting a company.
It looks like it’s only going to get better for Affiliate Marketers!

Blog Classroom Now Open! And why Ros got locked out :-)

A couple of weeks back Rosalind Gardner and I released a report on blogging that got a lot of people talking. Yes, I managed to convince Ros to team up with me to develop a blogging course.

Blogging is the strategy that Ros and I are now using almost exclusively for our web building. We have found that blogging is not just the the best way to launch a new site fast, if you combine it with our marketing strategies that new site will get traffic pretty much instantly - and forever.

Well, the blog course is now available and you can register for it if you hurry. It’s called Blog Classroom, and it’s a 6-week intensive that includes teleseminars, videos, plus a membership site that should become the biggest “blog marketing only” facility on the Internet.

Ros and I were going to keep the class pretty small, but last night we did a conference call about it which was the most amazing I have ever experienced! We had 300 lines jam packed, with hundreds of people waiting.

It was so crammed with people that Ros could not get into the call for 10 minutes! Yup, one of the call moderators got locked out. People actually dialed in 45 minutes early. And while we were waiting for the official start time, the listeners couldn’t hear each other talk, so many people were logging into the call.

So I wanted to give all our loyal AC Blog readers a heads up that we have extremely limited seats for this course, and they’re filling up quickly. The course includes

Video Training of each step of setting up a marketing blog
Teleseminars
24/7 Forum
All Resources in the Membership Site
Lifetime Access to the Membership Site

Plus Rosalind Gardner is going to build a live blog campaign with you during the class calls. So you get to physically watch us do everything that we teach!

You know, the response to Blog Classroom has even surprised us, since we didn’t do any big pre-launch to generate buzz. But hundreds of thousands of people have hit the sales page since it launched a couple hours ago. So if you’re at all interested, please head over to BlogClassroom.com right now so you don’t miss out.

Wordtracker – It Just Doesn’t Get Any Better!

I logged into my Wordtracker account the other day and found a nice surprise.

Previously, there were five different ways to search: Simple, Exact/Precise, Compressed, Comprehensive and Misspelling. While I like being given options, I need to know which one to use to get results!

Now, the five of them still exist, but there’s a new tool, too. It’s called “Keyword Researcher.” It makes searching multiple keywords much easier and, depending on its popularity, may someday replace the three different searches.

I was surprised when I used it. The ability to add multiple keywords and get the same results as inputting them separately saves a LOT of time. Before, I had to do separate searches on my keyword, then on keyword phrases, etc.

While there were new words presented each time, a lot of them were redundant. When doing searches for words within a particular niche, I would just see the same words over and over again. Using the tool makes makes it much simpler. In fact, the whole process with Wordtracker is really simple.

I use it when I build web pages, as well as when I make blog posts. If you want to be at the top of the organic search results, it pays to know which words to concentrate on when your writing – otherwise, you’re just writing, and there may not be anyone reading. I can now quickly find the words I need to concentrate on, and input them immediately into what I’m doing.

With Wordtracker, I originally got off to a quick start on my research without having to go through a big tutorial. (Although, they do have one, if you want to get extra hints on searching properly.)

If you’re not using it as a tool to help you find the words that will get you at the top of the search results, you may be missing out on a lot of business. There is a free trial if you want to take a limited look, or you can test it with full access for a day for less than 8 bucks!

You can do a lot of research in a day I bet.

Don’t Space Out When Naming Files

Sometimes it’s easy to forget about the simple things when you’re building websites. If you’re building a site that you want to make money with (and isn’t that the whole idea?), you want to get it done as quickly as possible.

However, there is one important thing to remember when building your site — name your files appropriately. When naming files, (for web pages, free reports, eBooks, etc), always give your files names that are have no spaces.

It’s easy to forget this step because if you use Xsite Pro to build sites, it automatically puts what I call “joiners” in the file names. For example, if you develop a page called Affiliate Marketing, the software will automatically give it a name of Affiliate_Marketing. Did you ever wonder why it does this?

The answer is: to guarantee that your links work at all times! If you do not put the joiner in, when someone clicks on your link, the toolbar will show your destination file to be something like Affiliate%20%Marketing%20%. See how it automatically puts it’s own joiner in? This leaves more room for error than if you named it with a joiner yourself.

I didn’t think about this when I uploaded my first eBook. Now, I occasionally get emails from people complaining they cannot download my book. However, now I have everything linked in my AutoResponders and several web pages, etc., and it would be very hard to change.

I’ll definitely keep it in mind from now on though! This might be happening with the free reports, and I could be losing subscribers if they are unable to unload a viral report with all of my affiliate marketing links in it.

Sometimes, it’s the little things that hurt you most.

Travel Back in Time for a Money-Making eBook

Time Travel. It’s an interesting idea and something that I bet we all wish we could do. It’s a classic case of “If I knew then what I know now. . .” What if you knew that a book was going to be a best-seller, I bet you would just go back in time and write it yourself!

Someone pinch me, I must be dreaming, or am I?

You can find good books to market by finding those in the Public Domain. Then just do some research at the library to help you write ads for those books. (As a first step, try to find the original ad for the book.) Here’s how the process might play out.

Go to Project Gutenberg.

There you will find electronic versions of hard copy books that are in the public domain. You are free to sell those eBooks in the public domain and keep all the profit. (Be sure to check the copyright status first, to ensure they really are in the public domain.)

If you don’t want to re-type an eBook that you find, and you don’t have a text version or a way to covert PDFs, you can have someone scan in the pages. Then just convert it into a PDF-type eBook.

After you get your book together, set up a simple website and write the sales letter. (If you think you have a big winner, consider having a professional copywriter compose the letter.)

You can also poll Affiliate Classroom members to see if you might have a winning subject. If you don’t want to post your subject, just ask for advice on the general concept. There are a lot of gurus that hang out at the forums, so take advantage of them.

I’ve seen this done with very old books on dreaming and self-help. The gurus spend a few days with the processing and develop a $19 eBook. They send a mailer out to their list and then watch the orders come pouring in.

Other than the official site at Project Gutenberg, you should keep your eyes open in other places. You never know when you might find your million-dollar best seller in a pile of old magazines or books at an antique store. You might even find original sales letters that you can use to develop your own.

Just make sure they are indeed public domain items, and then develop your book, send a mailer to your list, and watch the orders come in!
