Five Reasons To See A Movie (Trailer) Today

Normally I wouldn’t blog about a site that shows movie previews. There are several reasons today is an exception.
First, it’s Sunday and not much is being reported today that would interest affiliate marketers. So, maybe it’s a good day just to relax and watch a few trailers of current and upcoming films.
Second, just as important, the site is from Google. That doesn’t automatically make it great - nobody gets a free A from this classroom. But, as they often do, Google has put together a site that works well and could be great.
The page is laid out with current releases at the top, upcoming films further below. Graphics are appropriately sized and the text is minimal, which is all it needs to be. (Designers, take note.)
Third, since it’s Google and the site is well done it will almost certainly attract considerable traffic before long. That means once (or if) they choose to monetize it, you could well see contextual ads appearing there.
There’s plenty of available screen space on the page to place unobtrusive ads, both on the main page and the page that shows when a particular trailer is selected. That isn’t likely to be long in coming.
I have a very modest speed Internet connection - satellite, neither as slow as dial-up nor anywhere near as fast as DSL or cable - yet trailers load in adequate time and play perfectly. (The same can’t be said for a half-dozen other sites, which will go nameless.) Also, I use Firefox and many sites have trouble showing movies online in that browser. This worked without a hiccup.
Fourth, the growth of local search related advertising makes a seamless fit with films. Whether renting a DVD or going to the theater, most do that locally the majority of the time.
Fifth, with online video becoming ever more popular, and film previews near the top of that list, this could well be an excellent way to advertise all sorts of related products and services. Which is to say: anything and everything, since films cover every aspect of human existence.
PPC advertisers may soon be bidding on keywords like Superman, Carribean Pirates, and a whole lot more.
