Pew Finds 40 Million Casual Surfers

Deborah Fallows of the Pew Internet & American Life Project has prepared another excellent report, this time on browsing for fun. According to the study, “On any given day, about 40 million internet users go online just for fun or to pass the time.”

Savvy affiliates will realize that surfers may start out with no purpose, but can be led to clicking for purchase by good marketing. Here’s a chance to convert those ‘looky-loos’ into dollars.


MSN Prepares Contextual Ad Program: adCenter/ContentAds

Microsoft continues its move into Google territory as it prepares its adCenter offering.

Amazon recently decided to dip a toe in that market, but MSN is clearly preparing a full-channel swim.

MSN ContentAds is expected to be in beta sometime in 2006.

AOL Takes 1st Place in Conversion

According to a WebSideStory study, AOL topped the conversion rate list for search engines in January at 6.17% with MSN not far behind at 6.03%. The study included both organic and paid keyword traffic.

Maybe Google is getting something for its $1 billion investment after all…


MSN Preparing ‘Expo’ Classifieds Service

Described as “classifieds + community + chat + maps + personalization”, the upcoming Microsoft classifieds service is due in a couple of months.

With that diverse a feature set, affiliates have a big opportunity to expand their business by taking advantage of the new offering.

(Note the name change from Fremont to Expo.)
