What was Reuters Thinking?

A couple of days ago I made a posting about a cool “affiliate program” being launched by Reuters that was going to allow webmasters to place Reuters new video feeds on their website…

I thought it was very neat, UNTIL I recently read a posting by Shawn Collins.

Shawn Collins makes a good point in his post about the limitations of the new Reuters affiliate program – that it’s not really a commission based program at all! I still feel it’s a great way to put some of the most prestigious news content, with a known brand, on your site for free (but it’s only free for a little while).

But Shawn’s point is very valid – why is Reuters calling it an “affiliate program,” if they don’t have a commission, revenue share, or PPL model in place?

Reuters are very cheeky then using the term ‘affiliate program’ when they’re simply wanting to spread themselves out over the ‘Net using our monetizable space. But it is quality content for stickiness.
